English Speaking Skills: How Can I Enhance Them?
Enhancing speaking skills requires effective pronunciation, varied tone, and confidence, best achieved through practice and guidance from a reputable language school like the College of English Language in Santa Monica.

Improving your speaking skills is certainly not easy. In fact, it’s one of the most difficult aspects of learning a new language. You seem to plateau too soon, and you’re left wondering how to jump over the seemingly too high of a hurdle.
Fortunately, you have us to help you. Polishing your presentation efforts, learning important speaking skills, and increasing your speaking confidence sounds difficult, but is it though? Well, probably less so with the help of educated professionals from a Santa Monica English language school. But, back to the beginning - enhancing your speaking skills.

How can I speak more effectively?
Speaking effectively is about being fluent in English, but there’s also more to it than that. Sure, you have to the language you want to speak well, but there are also a couple of other tricks to use if you want to become a more effective speaker. Trust us, the Los Angeles County Office of Education highly values confident speakers.
- Smooth pronunciation - Mind you, this has nothing to do with your accent. Speaking with an accent is what makes a language beautiful, not worse. Do, however, try to keep your pronunciation as correct as possible.
- Use inflection - Remember, speaking is similar to singing, and you have to vary your tone between high and low, otherwise it might sound boring. Try to vary your pitch.
- Slow down and speed up - Similar to inflection, you don’t want to keep speaking at a single speed. Try to mix the speed up depending on the topic of the conversation.
- Listen well - Yes, how can you converse with somebody if you’re not listening closely? But, this is another type of listening. Try to speak with the natives, and listen and imitate their tone, pitch, and speed.
- Be confident - Effective speakers always sound confident, not much more to it.
- Expand your vocabulary - The more words you know, the more words will you be able to use in different context. It’s not so great to be always describing something as “nice”.
- Eye contact - Try to maintain eye contact while conversing with other people. This will show them you’re confident, attentive, and dedicated.
- Add some humor - Be funny and witty when the conversation allows for it, as it will make the conversation more engaging and interesting.
- Keep at it - Practice, practice, practice. Don’t get discouraged and never give up!
